About

About

Enlarged prostate diet is a diet that is followed to ease the symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia. Certain foods and beverages are known to have an impact on prostate health because of their effects on testosterone and other hormones.

Research has found that a diet primarily consisting of meat or dairy products can increase the risk of prostate enlargement and cancer. This is especially true if a person does not incorporate enough vegetables into their diet. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats is thought to protect the prostate.

Some of the foods that can be included in enlarged prostate diet are:

  1. Salmon is rich in healthy fats that contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help prevent and reduce inflammation within the body.
  2. Tomatoes are packed with lycopene, an antioxidant that may benefit prostate gland cells. Cooking tomatoes, such as in tomato sauce or soup, helps to release the lycopene and make it more readily available to the body.
  3. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries are excellent sources of antioxidants, which help to remove free radicals from the body.
  4. Oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits are all high in vitamin C, which may help to protect the prostate gland.
  5. Food items like red meat, dairy products, caffeine, alcohol and sodium should be avoided.

Food Items To Limit

  1. Red Meat : it elevates levels of arachidonic acid in your body, and that, in turn, increases inflammation in prostate.
  2. Eggs & Poultry : Egg yolks also have high levels of arachidonic acid, which, as mentioned earlier, increases inflammation. Try eating only the egg white, as this is a good source of protein.
  3. Processed foods & sugar : Highly processed food (which tends to include junk food and take-aways) and refined sugar all increase inflammation in your system.
  4. Caffeine : Avoiding or limiting your caffeine intake including coffee, tea and fizzy drinks can make a big difference to your urinary health.
  5. Spicy foods : Curries, chilli, hot sauces can make tasty meals but men with an enlarged prostate need to be wary of spicy foods like these, as they can irritate the bladder and prostate, causing urinary symptoms associated with BPH.
  6. Dairy : Dairy is typically high in saturated fats as well as inflammatory chemicals which can worsen your symptoms.
  7. Alcohol : Avoiding alcohol is recommended as it acts as an irritant in the bladder and prostate, resulting in the need to urinate frequently.

Do's & Don'ts:

  1. A low fat diet lessen BPH symptoms
  2. Eat Four or more servings of vegetables a day

  5. Eat zinc rich foods.Foods higher in zinc include oysters, crab, baked beans, duck, lamb and beef (lean).
  6. Healthy habits such as regular exercise, watching your waistline, eating your vegetables and limiting dietary fat may help with BPH as well as lower your risk of erectile dysfunction, diabetes and heart disease.

  4. Green tea : Green tea contains antioxidant compounds called catechins, a type of polyphenol that destroy certain bacteria and viruses, boost the immune system, and fight prostate cancer.
  5. Muhsrooms : Mushrooms contain ergothioneine's forte which has potent antioxidant properties to protect the cells throughout the body, including the prostate.
